The rise of the digital era has led to a significant number of people resorting to ordering in and savouring their favourite dishes from the comfort of their homes. Ever since the COVID-19 lockdown, the number of food deliveries has increased tremendously, thus leading giants like Swiggy to expand.
As per Swiggy’s 9th annual food trends report, "How India Swiggy'd," 2024 was all about people eating for their souls. Revealing biryani to be the most ordered dish, followed by South Indian dosa, here is a glimpse of India’s most ordered food, as per Swiggy’s 2024 Report.
India’s Most Ordered Dishes In 2024
First and foremost, biryani remained the top contender for the ninth consecutive year. With a jaw-dropping 83 million orders this year—that’s about two biryanis every second—this dish solidified its place as the heart and soul of Indian cravings.
The second most popular dish remains to be dosa, with 23 million orders, and Bengaluru alone has 2.5 million masala dosa orders. Up next is the South Indian comfort food idlis, which has 7.8 million orders across the country.
While Delhi proved its love for Chole Bhature, parathas were most ordered in Punjab. Similarly, kachoris remained the most popular dish in Kolkata. As for snacks, chicken rolls were ordered 2.48 million times and Chicken Momos 1.63 million times. Interestingly, chicken burgers ruled the graveyard shift with 1.84 million orders between 12–2 AM, and biryani wasn’t far behind.
As per the statistics, dinner was the busiest mealtime of the year, with 215 million orders, a whopping 29% higher than lunch. From butter naan and dal makhani to exotic cuisines, dinner became the canvas for culinary adventures across the country.
