FRIDAY THE 13th is known the world over as a day of frights, a day when horror’s most sinister cast of characters unleash their unbridled reign of terror… aka the day when we observe Wednesday Addams’ birthday.
The Addams Family’s precocious daughter isn’t the most ardent fan of riotous birthday celebrations; although she does on one occasion express appreciation for the idea behind the occasion: “I haven’t always been against birthdays. Each one reminds me I’m a year closer to death’s cold embrace.”
Her brother Pugsley on the other hand, possibly appreciates birthday parties, having been known to eat at least five pieces of cake as a matter of rule, when he’s a guest at one of these shindigs.
With relatives who have a penchant for snacking on cacti and pot pourri; a mother who exhorts her to “play with (her) food!”; and a butler (Lurch) who is wont to hand over a packed lunch that squirms and wriggles, Wednesday could have herself a feast, even if she doesn’t quite want all the other attendant “joyousness” associated with birthdays.
And so, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the “ooky food” that makes an appearance across all of The Addams Family iterations — from the TV shows and movies, to the cartoon series. It’s truly a macabre menu, and it's Wednesday-approved!
(We don't advise you to go out looking for any of these dishes though; they're best savoured in the realm of imagination!)
