We’ve transitioned to a phase where tea and coffee are not what it says on the label but well beyond that. Depending on the brewing technique, quality of the grinds, temperature and how caffeinated you like your beverage, personal preferences play an important role in making a choice. Cold Brew

A coffee that is steeped cold and served cold, ground coffee is steeped for a period of 8-24 hours and strained to get a strong, dark concentrate. Typically drunk diluted with water or milk and plenty of ice, there isn’t a large distinction between iced coffee and cold brew. However, depending on the strength and dilution, the flavours may vary.

Nitro Cold Brew

Cold brew that is infused with nitrogen and compressed, after which it is served from a keg or tap system, typically set up in coffee shops is essentially the core concept of nitro cold brew. This type of coffee is difficult to recreate in a domestic set up due to the need for heavy equipment needed in order to get an extract. Nitrogenated cold brew has a creamy flavour and doesn’t need additional refrigeration or ice since it is already served cold.

Iced Coffee

Coffee that is brewed and served over ice, this type of coffee has a full-bodied flavour that is derived from a dark roast blend. What is basically hot coffee brewed and served over ice, the ice enables the final flavour to be diluted as a result from the ice melting. Brewing the concentrate slightly stronger than you would for a regular cup of coffee, is highly recommended.

Drip Brew

One of the most common styles of making coffee across the world, drip coffee is made with an automated coffee-maker. Made with hot water and finely ground coffee beans, the significant difference between drip and pour-over style coffee is time and control. When added to the coffee machine in measured quantities, drip coffee technique can produce a consistently good quality cup.

Pour-Over Coffee

A specific type of brewed coffee that is available in specialty coffee shops, this is a manual process which allows the maker more control over the quality of brew. Known to be the ideal method of brewing coffee for a connoisseur, this technique allows more control over the extraction time, bean to water ratio and temperatures. Although this method takes longer than the others, it produces a cup that has a robustly flavoured brew.

Espresso

A concentrated drip coffee that is usually more intense in flavour than the regular brew, espresso has a rounded flavour that it derives from the oils of the coffee bean. Due to a finer grind, pressurized brewing method and lower grind to water ratio, espresso is served in a smaller cup than usual due to its concentration levels being higher. A medium or medium-dark roast blend of espresso beans is preferred for this method.
