While monsoon can bring a refreshing halt to the draining and sweaty summer days, the humidity can make the body go through a hard time. During the monsoon season with fluctuating temperatures, it's essential to nourish the body with foods that support digestion and immunity. 

If you are facing stomach issues like bloating or indigestion, here are some recipes for Ayurvedic soups and vegan broths that can help comfort your gut. Mung Bean Soup

Mung bean soup is known for its fibre and protein content. It is a simple soup that is made with split mung beans, water, and a blend of spices. For better digestion or regulated bowel movements, this nutritionist-approved recipe is a must-try.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup split mung beans
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Boil the split mung beans with turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, and garlic until they are soft.
  2. Blend the mixture using a wooden churner until smooth.
  3. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
  4. Serve warm.

Lemon-Ginger Soup

As per Ayurveda, lemon and ginger are known for their digestive and medicinal properties. To soothe the digestive tract and help the production of enzymes, you can try the flavourful lemon and ginger soup.

Ingredients:

  • 1 stalk lemongrass, crushed
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400 ml coconut milk
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Simmer lemongrass, ginger, and turmeric in water until fragrant.
  2. Stir in coconut milk and heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Coconut-Carrot Soup

If you want a filling soup, you must try this recipe for coconut and carrot soup. While coconut milk is rich in healthy fats and carrots are rich in fibre, the combined ingredients can help nourish your gut lining.

Ingredients:

  • 450 g carrots
  • 400 ml coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 30 milliliters olive oil
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Saute carrots in a small amount of olive oil until they start to soften.
  2. Add cumin and curry leaves and cook for a few more minutes.
  3. Blend the carrot mixture with coconut milk.
  4. Cook on low flame until heated through.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve warm.

Clear Vegetable Broth

To get the most out of seasonal vegetables, you can make a clear soup with your favourite vegetables.

Ingredients:

  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 beetroot, chopped
  • 1 cup sweet corn
  • 1 sweet potato, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Boil the mixed vegetables with pepper, turmeric, cumin, and a pinch of cinnamon until they are tender.
  2. Blend the mixture well, then strain to remove solids.
  3. Serve warm.
