Bánh Tráng Nướng, or Vietnamese Pizza, is a beloved street food in Vietnam that puts a creative spin on the classic pizza dish. Although it may not bear the traditional characteristics of an Italian-style pizza, this dish is a delectable and fulfilling food preparation creation in its own regard.
Vietnamese Pizza features a unique twist on traditional pizza by utilising a crispy and slightly chewy rice paper sheet as its base, rather than the typical dough. This innovative approach adds a delightful texture and flavour to the dish when grilled to perfection. The rice paper functions as a subtle and refined outer layer. Once the toppings are incorporated, a harmonious blend of diverse flavours and textures is achieved.
It's a one-of-a-kind culinary experience that takes inspiration from pizza but uses Vietnamese ingredients and methods of preparation. For those curious about Vietnamese cuisine but not sure where to start, this is a wonderful and widely-sought-after street food choice.
Ingredients:
1 large rice paper sheet
100g shredded chicken
50g chopper sausages
1 egg
½ cup bean sprouts
1 green onion, chopped
Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint, basil)
Cooking oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Sriracha sauce
Method:
Soak one sheet of rice paper in water just enough to make it flexible. Put it in the pan. Crack the egg over the hot oil, and then spread it around. Spread the sausage and chicken out on the rice paper, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle some bean sprouts, sliced green onions, and chopped fresh herbs on top. Wait until the outside is crispy. Place it on the serving surface and top it with mayonnaise and sriracha sauce once it's finished cooking. You can serve the Vietnamese pizza whole or cut it up into bite-size pieces.
