India is currently immersed in the festive season, with the southern part of the country celebrating Onam and parts of western and northern India continuing their Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Both the festivals are a 10-day affair, and involve a lot of feasting.

Ganesh Chaturthi, which began on August 31 will end with visarjan on September 9. Until then, devotees of Lord Ganesha are leaving no stone unturned to please the deity - from singing hymns to preparing his favourite foods. After all, Lord Ganesha is known to be quite the foodie.

Out of all the sweets and savouries prepared during this 10-day festival, modaks are the most special and popular sweet offered to the deity as bhog and served to devotees as prasad. Do you know why? Modak is believed to be the most favourite of Bappa, so much so that the lord is also referred to by the name of ‘Modakpriya’. Therefore, many varieties of modaks are seen at sweet shops across the country during this time - from the classic ukadiche modak to chocolate modaks and many other flavours.

If you ask us, all these flavours of modaks are our favourite, but have you ever tried a modak made with banana bread? Yes, the same banana bread that went viral on the internet during the lockdown as people went berserk baking the quick and easy bread at home to satisfy sugar cravings. The soft, spongy bread is perfect for a tea time snack or for a quick sweet treat, but you can make several other desserts with it, and modak is one of them.

If you are wondering how exactly we can combine the two desserts, we’ve got a perfect recipe for you. Here is a fusion modak recipe packed with the decadence of chocolate and banana bread along with the goodness of coconut, cashews, almonds, pistachios, and elaichi. This is sure to make you drool.
