Life is tough as is, and it can get even more annoying when you don’t have the time to satisfy your evening cravings. It’s true in the hustle and bustle of modern life that the younger version of you who used to find happiness in food has now given a backseat to the meals, ironically in an attempt to earn bread.

However, the good news is that you don’t have to kill your cravings just because of your busy routine. With modern appliances like microwaves and air frying, prepping up an evening snack is no longer an elaborate task. So, get up and get ready to speed up your cooking process with these easy-to-make microwave snacks.

Mac and Cheese

When you think of evening snacks, the good old mac and cheese must cross your mind. Even though the traditional mac and cheese can take a fair share of time, you can easily speed things up with a microwave. All you need to do is boil macaroni and strain it in a bowl. Then, add some milk, grated cheese, and salt to taste. Stir the mixture and let the cheese melt in the microwave. After a few minutes, take the bowl out and ensure that the macaroni is well coated with the cheese sauce. Once ready, top it with oregano and chilli flakes as per your liking, and you’re ready to dig in!

Dhokla

Starting off with a low-calorie Gujarati dish, Dhokla is one of the most loved snacks that has made its place across borders as well. It is a light and fluffy snack that will not kill your appetite for dinner and will satisfy your evening cravings at the same time.

To make dhokla, take a bowl, add besan (chickpea flour) and make a mixture with curd and water. Then, add a pinch of baking powder to help the fermentation process and add your favourite spices. Take the batter and steam it in the microwave for five to ten minutes. Once cooked, garnish the dhokla with mustard seeds, slit green chillies, and curry leaves, and enjoy without any guilt.

Mug Pizza

If you crave a pizza but want to eat something homemade, a mug pizza will be perfect for you. The microwave recipe is not an elaborate one, so you can make it in a jiffy. You can start off by taking a bowl and mixing maida (all-purpose flour), baking powder, and a little salt with water. Once the pizza dough is ready, you can scoop some of it out and transfer it into a microwave-safe mug. Add pizza sauce on top of it, along with shredded mozzarella cheese. If you like a margarita pizza, you’re good to bake it. If not, add some chopped vegetables and your favourite toppings. Let the pizza bake in the microwave for about 2 minutes until the cheese starts to melt. Check if the crust is crunchy and there’s nothing left to relish it!

Cheesy Nachos

There are days when you don’t want to munch on a packet of chips and want to go a little innovative with your evening snack. For such occasions, take a bag of nachos and arrange them on a plate. Now, generously add mozzarella or sandwich cheese, depending on your preference. Next, take some chopped vegetables like onion, tomatoes, capsicum, and sweet corn and sprinkle them on top of the nachos. Microwave for a few minutes until you see the cheese melting, and savour your personal nachos plate with a dip or salsa.

Chocolate Mug Cake

To treat yourself with something sweet in between a hectic day, you can make yourself a chocolate mug cake. To make a mug cake, take a large bowl with flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar. Start adding milk and oil gently while mixing to get a smooth batter. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and keep mixing till you get a consistent batter. Transfer the batter to a microwave-safe mug and let it bake for two to three minutes. Once the cake is ready, you can eat it as it is, or add a scoop of ice cream or a layer of chocolate syrup for a more indulged experience.
