Filter coffee is a thing, especially in South India. It is known as Palakkad Iyer Coffee or Kaapi in the region. Filter coffee is different from the coffee that we usually make at home and takes time to prepare. That’s why most people wonder if there is any easier way to make filter coffee. We have a piece of good news for such filter coffee lovers.

In an innovative move, a few Kerala students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam, invented a filter coffee capsule called Kaapiphile that has now got recognition worldwide. Notably, Kaapiphile is easy to consume, store, and carry while traveling. Now, you can make your favourite cup of filter coffee within seconds as it is a piece of cake now.

Students namely Dimple Raj Purohit, Elisha Aenorie, Sowndaryaa Lakshmi V, and Sivanandana KB participated in a competition called TiE Global Student Pitch Competition. As contestants, they (Team Kapiphle) created an innovative filter coffee capsule. The team represented TiE Kerala at the international level at the Global Finals of TYE Program. The newly invented filter coffee capsule managed to make the team Kapiphhle reach the top 8th position and also garner the ‘Popular Choice Award.’

The team leader, Sowndaryaa Lakshmi V, recently gave an interview to The Better India in which she said the idea behind creating filter coffee capsules came from tea bombs when she was watching a video of tea capsules on the internet. This innovation has made the process of making filter coffee extremely easy.

These coffee capsules contain compressed coffee while their covering is made of cassava, which is eco-friendly and organic too. This shield prevents the moistening of the coffee inside the capsules.

Now, when you feel like having a cup of filter coffee, you don’t need to ditch the idea or look for a restaurant that sells the same. Just put one capsule in a glass of hot milk or water. Wait for a few seconds and Voila!
