Potatoes are one of the most versatile and commonly used ingredients in the kitchen. Be it a classic potato sandwich, a curry, mashed potato tikkis or simple baked potatoes - there are just too many ways to use this root vegetable. No wonder that the humble potato is also a prominent part of most celebrations. While potato dishes don’t take a lot of time to prepare, the process of peeling potatoes does feel cumbersome. Shouldn't an ingredient as simple and fuss-free as potatoes be ready in no time? Fret not, as we’ve found an incredibly easy hack that gives you mashed potatoes without peeling them at all. Wondering how? Read on.
Shared by popular blogger Lora McLaughlin (@lorafied) in an Instagram video, the easy hack has gone viral, receiving over 1 million views and over 27k likes on the photo-sharing app. "Mashed potato hack! No peeling! No cutting", wrote the blogger in the caption.
The video showed how mashed potatoes can be prepared in a quick and hassle-free manner. She first boils the potatoes with their skins on, then cooks them and sets them aside to cool down a bit. Laura suggests taking a bowl and placing a baking rack on top of it. Alternatively, you can also use a grill rack for this. She simply cuts the potatoes in half and puts them on the metal rack and pushes them from the top. This simple process of pushing got the metallic rack separating the potato peel from the inside. Then, the potato was transferred directly to the bowl.
The easy hack to mash potatoes has already won over netizens, as many poured in comments, saying how this method is time-saving. "This is incredible. What a fantastic idea", commented one user. "I seriously dislike peeling potatoes," agreed one user, while another said, "I like the skin on my potatoes but still nice hack!".
