Durga Puja and feasting goes hand in hand. There isn't a way around it. This is the time of year when Bengalis everywhere indulge in a four-day feast of delectable food. The food is the centre of attention  besides the ‘para’r gossip’ of who's dating who and what they're wearing.

For that reason, pandal hopping is essential to experiencing the actual Durga Puja festive feeling. However when you are stuck in a jam while you pandal hop, here are some delectable treats you can pack for yourself and enjoy when on the road. Keep on reading to keep your list ready!

Kathi Rolls

You can select the preparation and filling that you prefer from a variety of options. Egg rolls, chicken rolls, mutton rolls, vegetable rolls, paneer rolls, and so on are among the varieties of kathi rolls. Kathi rolls are a delicious treat that will thrill both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Anybody who enjoys spicy food must try them. To fully appreciate this delicious delicacy, dip it in the spicy green chutney (or even better, kasundi) and chew on crunchy onions.

Mutton Chops

Lip-smacking mutton chops—minced mutton coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried—are too good to refuse. Celebrations and chops go hand in hand, and this mutton chop will explain why. The type of chops you will eat during Durga Puja are easily accessible in all pandals and are rarely found elsewhere. This is served hot with an amazing mustard chutney. After eating the mutton chop once, you won't want to eat anything else for a snack. There are plenty of vegetarian chop options available as well.

Biryani

Is it possible to discuss a Bengali holiday lunch without bringing up biryani? That is nearly unheard of. All you need is the delicious flavours of mutton and fish biryani. Every pandal offers a different variety of biryani; sample them all and then decide which you liked best—after all, Durga Puja happens just once a year. Savour the traditional Bengali biryani, which is made with steamed rice and potatoes blended with spices. It can also be made with pieces of meat, poultry, fish, or even vegetables.

Fruit Chaat

A dish of sliced fresh fruit is one of the most refreshing things ever. They are flavourful, juicy, and nutrient-rich. Bananas, apples, and any other fruit that appeals to your taste buds can be chosen. Choose a handcrafted spice blend, add some flavour with black salt and roasted cumin seeds, and finish with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Fresh fruits are actually an essential part of the customary offerings presented to deities during Durga Puja. You can easily pack them for longer rides.

Sondesh

Sondesh is one of the many popular Bengali sweets. Buy a sondesh from a pandalor, pack them homemade and enjoy them during the car ride. The  traditional Bengali dessert is made with a lot of milk and sugar. Without trying sondesh, your Bengali lunch will not be complete. There are a tonne of different Bengali sweets available. Thus, don't limit yourself to just one treat per day; instead, savour the mouth watering flavours of chanar jalebi, rasgulla, rasmalai, and rajbhog in succession.

Enjoy pandal hopping with all these delicious delicacies and more. With your friends and family, have the time of your life and really embrace the festival atmosphere. Make the best decision for yourself and don’t jeopardise your health in the excitement.
