It is that time of the year again! We are just a week away from Diwali, and one can already feel the festive vibe in the air. The end of Navratri and Durga Puja signal that it is time for the ‘festival of lights’. Apart from the religious significance that Diwali holds in Indian culture, it is also a time to get together and celebrate with games and food.
This reminds us of the tradition of Diwali card parties. A common affair these days, people host these gatherings at home prior to the festival and have a gala time with near and dear ones. We all know that no party is complete without food. However, to make it easy for your guests to satiate themselves while enjoying their time, bite-sized snacks work best. Wondering what you can make?
Fret not. Here are some delightful mini snacks that one can whip up for a Diwali card party this year.
1. Taco Bites
While tacos are popular Mexican treats, this bite-sized version lives up to the same flavours and fillings and will surely impress your guests. The small tortillas are shaped like cups to hold the stuffing together. To this, you can add fried beans, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Top it with some celery and salsa and heat it a little before serving.
2. Mini Pizzas
Ordering in huge pizzas will get you nowhere, as someone would still fight over that last slice. However, in the case of a mini pizza, you wouldn’t have to worry since there would be a burst of flavours in one bite only. The small pizza bases are slathered with sauce, veggies, and grated cheese as usual. Baked until the crust turns golden-brown, you can make a huge batch in one go.
3. Corn Chaat Bites
Give your regular chaat a healthy spin with these bite-sized corn chaat bites. Take the boiled sweet corn and toss it in onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and chaat masala. Top with green chillies and coriander leaves. Place small portions of this mix on each papdi and serve right away. The crunchiness of the base complements the mushy and sweet flavours of corn.
4. Khakhra Canapes
While khakhra is a paper-thin, crunchy snack from Gujarat, it also comes in miniature versions. Small khakhras are turned into canapés with delectable spreads and toppings. Mix mayonnaise with mint chutney and keep aside. Top the mini khakhras with chopped onions, tomatoes and coriander leaves. Spread the mayo chutney mix on it and enjoy.
5. Mini Garlic Pita With Kebabs
A fusion snack that works wonders at parties, this is a combination of a Middle Eastern pita bread with Mexican kebabs and Indian flavours. The pita bread is flavoured with garlic while kebabs are stuffed with rajma and potatoes. The melt-in-your-mouth kebabs are placed on the soft pita and topped with a pudina-flavoured sour cream.
