The ‘Festival of Lights’ brings with it a lot of joy, enthusiasm, and fervour. But can we miss the vast array of delicacies relished during this festival? From Mohanthaal in Gujarat to Mawa Kachori in Rajasthan, almost all parts of India have their signature dishes exclusively to be savoured during Diwali. When I was a kid, there were just two things I looked forward to the most- food and crackers. With time came self and environmental awareness and it's been 8 years since I left bursting crackers on Diwali. Instead, I have been spending green Diwali by indulging in a lot of fun activities- organizing a green Diwali party being one. Although the party is all things are fun and joyous, the only thing that creates a headache is deciding the menu. The same issue showed up last year and I thought of introducing some Odia delicacies on my menu. And surprisingly, everybody loved them. If you are finding yourself in a similar situation, here are five decadent Odia dishes that you can add to your Diwali party menu.

Jhal Mudhi

Undoubtedly, Jhal Mudhi is one of the most popular and favourite street foods of Odisha. The crunchy Mudhi along with the boiled chana, achaar, mustard oil, peanuts, and some humble spices are perfect to please your guests.

Ghuguni

A delicious Odia curry made with white peas, Ghuguni is relished in almost all Odia households. You can amp the dish up by garnishing it with sev, chopped onion, coriander leaves, and any chutney to make it party-ready.

Dahibara

No matter what, most Odias can never say “No” to Dahibara. The soft vadas soaked in the delicious curd mixture are enough to tantalize your palate with their flavours. You can add aloo dum to serve along with the dish if you have enough time.

Kakera

Found in almost all Odia households during winters, Kakera is a popular Odia pitha made with semolina with a filling of coconut and jaggery. Serve these delicious pithas to your guests and watch them drooling over them.

Magaja Ladoo

No Indian festival is complete without some delicious desserts and Diwali is no different. Magaja Ladoo is served as a Mahaprasad to Lord Jagannath and a delicious melange of ghee, wheat flour and sugar. Serve these ladoos as a dessert at your Diwali party and your guests will keep asking for more.
