A weekend is defined as well-spent when you have fun, indulge in food, and spend time with friends and family. From November 30 to December 1, 2024, Delhites had the most fun at JLN Stadium while participating in Slurrp Great Indian Cookout, brought to you by TTK Prestige and powered by Goldiee Masale and Vikram Tea.
The annual food festival celebrates the love for food that gastronomes, home chefs, and top Indian culinary masters share. The third edition was organised around the theme of Delhi vs Mumbai which made it grand and more fun. While the home chefs prepared Mumbai delights during contests, Indian Chefs Harpal Singh Sokhi, Kunal Kapur, Nishant Choubey, Vaibhav Bhargava, Kamaldeep Kaur, and Gurkirat Singh hosted workshops.
From the games and giveaways to interactive sessions with the chefs, the Delhi edition was a success. If you have been following all the updates on social media, you should wait for the announcement of the Mumbai edition where home chefs will compete against each other in the final showdown and take home the trophy and prize.
Indian Chefs Conduct Interactive Workshops At Slurrp Great Indian Cookout
Any event that Slurrp organises gives a chance for home chefs and foodies to learn from the best. It started with a Beetroot & Cream Cheese Kebab workshop by Chef Vaibhav Bhargava, Partner Chef Sansai and Food Consultant. With special partner American Pistachios, the master of fusion recipes also demonstrated how people can make quick snacks by roasting pecans.
“Growing up in Delhi, I cherish the food that the capital of India has to offer. Delhi has a lot to offer in terms of how people from across states reside here and enjoy the foodscape. Mumbai also has a similar culture, but Delhi’s food is definitely a winner for me.”
After Chef Vaibhav Bhargava, Chef Nishant Choubey, Chef-Owner, BHAANAS, Delhi; Chef Partner, Street Storyss, Bengaluru; Consulting Chef, Rani, New Jersey, USA, took charge of the stage and he lit on fire. With his charisma and insightful tips, he left the audience impressed. He prepared Pasta using high-quality Vero Bella pasta and other traditional and exotic ingredients.
Sharing his memories of savouring food in Delhi, he said, “I recently tried nagori in Old Delhi. It is a delicious creation of halwa and sabji served in a shell of puri. I would like to work on it and bring it to my kitchen.” But Chef Nishant loves Mumbai food equally. He is a fan of Irani chai, ragda pattice, modak, and puran poli. But according to him, nothing beats the garlic chutney served with Mumbai vada pav.
On the first day, November 30, 2024, Slurrp Content Head Shreya Goswami moderated a fun yet informative panel discussion with Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, Celebrity Chef and restaurateur, and Chef Nishant Choubey. Chef Sokhi not only shared some cooking tips and his take on Delhi vs Mumbai foods but also mentioned how the Slurrp Great Indian Cookout brings so many home chefs together. He added, “Their love (Slurrp Community) is so immense. Those home chefs are beautiful. They have just stepped out and ventured into an entrepreneurship program. They have started displaying their culinary skills in such a beautiful way. I want to encourage them to come forward and become entrepreneurs. I wish all these home chefs a great journey.”
The second day of Slurrp Great Indian Cookout started with a bang as Chef Gurkirat, a lawyer turned Chef, showcased to the spectators how to make Masala Chhole Samosa Tart using the impeccable spice blends by Goldiee Group. If you were there, you must have noted down the recipe for a perfect starter.
While passionately speaking about his love for Delhi food, he shared, “I have lived in Mumbai for a while but I missed Delhi chhole bhature a lot.” He added, “Delhi is the food capital of India because people of all walks of life live here which adds versatility to the foodscape.”
Chef Kamaldeep Kaur, MasterChef India Season 7 Finalist, added a touch of sweetness with her presence as she took the audience on a journey to bake Tres Leches Cake using elaichi-flavoured Vikram Tea. What can be a better dessert than a tea-infused delight in the winter season?
Like many Delhiites and foodies, Chef Kamaldeep Kaur is also a fan of chhole bhature. She added, “Delhi’s chana bhatura and Mumbai’s cutting chai and vada pav symbolise the food spirit of the two cities.” Speaking about Slurrp Great Indian Cookout, she said, “Being with the audience and interacting with them boosts my confidence and encourages me to post more recipes and continue with my journey.”
The highly anticipated workshop of season three of Slurrp Great Indian Cookout Delhi edition was by Chef Kunal Kapur, Celebrity Chef and Restaurateur. He made Amritsari Khatte Ladoo Ki Chaat and Punjabi Til Bhugga, a special delight that the audience went crazy after.
As a Punjabi and true blue foodie, Chef Kunal Kapur shared, “Growing up in Delhi, eating outside, picnicking at India Gate with potluck, and cooking for gatherings at home, his life is a collage of food memories.” He cherishes Bombay (presently called Mumbai) because he has worked there. “I am what I am today because of that (Mumbai) city,” he added.
According to Chef Kunal, “Food of Mumbai is more versatile than Delhi. It is very different from the rest of Maharashtra because people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Rajasthan to Manipur live there.” However, one of his comfort dishes is from Delhi, and it’s butter chicken.
Home Chef Compete At Slurrp Great Indian Cookout
Slurrp Great Indian Cookout was not only about workshops, it was also about home chefs competing against each other for the prize money. Six contenders were picked from the digital contest, and they faced each other in Delhi from November 30 to December 1, 2024.
Shail Swamy, Renu Tyagi, Gayatri Singh, Tanu Mittal, Puja Bansal, and Nidhi Sehgal were among the top picks, and by the end of December 1, 2024, home chefs Shail Swamy and Puja Bansal battled for the ticket to Mumbai in Delhi finale. Chef Gurkirat Singh loved the dish prepared by Puja Bansal, and she will be competing against the Mumbai finalists very soon.
