Sizzler is a roasted, grilled plate full of fried meat (chicken, fish, lamb, or vegetables) served with noodles, rice, french fries, cheese, pasta, etc. All these are assembled on metal, or ironstone plates kept on a wooden base. Sizzlers are highly popular on the streets of Japan that travelled to America and reached France at the time of World war 2. The dish started in the US (culver city, CA) in 1958 where some of the restaurants began serving steak and veggies together hot on a one-plate with poured gravy over it. This would keep the meat and veggies hot for a longer time than the traditional method of serving. So, let's begin cooking this delicious, smoky, and sizzling meal at home.
Ingredients
For Chicken:
- 2 chicken breasts (cubed)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp cornflour
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 whole egg
For Gravy:
- 1 inch ginger (julienned)
- 1 tbsp sweet and spicy red sauce/tomato chilli sauce
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 2 tbsp red chilli sauce
- 2-3 green chillies (chopped)
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- 2 strings of spring onion (chopped)
- 1 onion (diced)
- ½ tsp soy sauce
- Salt, to taste
Veggies:
- Yellow, red, green bell pepper (diced)
- 1 carrot (chopped)
- ½ cup broccoli (florets )
- Green french beans (chopped)
- Onions (chopped)
How To Make Chicken Sizzler?
- Mix chicken pieces, soy sauce, cornflour, and ginger- garlic paste in a bowl.
- Give a good mix, make sure the chicken pieces are appropriately coated with the spices. Keep this covered in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat oil to deep or shallow fry the chicken pieces. Beat an egg in a bowl mix with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
- Take one chicken piece at a time, first dip in the egg batter, then slip them into the hot oil.
- Fry the pieces till they become crispy or golden in colour. Once they are done, keep them on the kitchen paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Take an iron sizzler plate, heat it to keep on medium flame. Time to make the gravy; heat the wok with some oil. Add chopped garlic, ginger, and green chillis. Saute a bit, then add chopped onions, bell peppers, mushrooms,s and again, saute it for a minute or more.
- Add the sauces such as red chilli sauce, sweet and spicy, tomato sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, stir well, then add black pepper and salt.
- Add chopped spring onions and fried chicken pieces, saute all on a medium flame once it is done, turn the stove off.
- Now take the sizzling hot iron plate, assemble the cabbage leaf, and then put cooked spicy chicken gravy pieces. Garnish it with spring onions and white sesame seeds.
