Chakli: A Crispy & Spiral Savoury Snack To Make On Ganesh Chaturthi

Our wait is over because one of everyone's favourite Indian festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi, is here. It is indeed the best time of the year, as this ten-day long festival marks a beginning of joy, happiness and togetherness. Indian festivals are always brimming with loads of homemade sweets, snacks and festive food. Yes, modaks are always the first sweet that is prepared at every Indian household and served to guests on Ganesh Chaturthi. But besides modak or typical barfis, you can always welcome your guests with crispy, savoury snacks. It's time you try your hands on making chaklis at home. Chakli is a scrumptious, spiral-shaped snack that is made by combining some of its prime ingredients like rice, gram flour, butter and urad dal. They can be prepared in less than just half an hour with much ease and comfort. Follow a complete step-by-step guide to make chaklis at home.

Ingredients-

  • Half cup rice flour
  • Half cup urad dal
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • Half cup curd
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Black pepper/ red pepper

Method for preparation-

  • Knead a firm dough using rice flour, urad dal and curd. Also add tablespoons of butter, cumin seeds, sesame seeds and black or red pepper.
  • Now take a chakli maker and start placing portions of dough inside it.The chakli maker will help you give the desired spiral shape. You can also use a mould if you don’t have a chakli maker at home.
  • Once all the chakli are moulded into shape, get them ready for frying.
  • Heat a pan with oil and gently start frying the chaklis by flipping them from both the sides until it turns golden in colour.
  • Transfer into a plate covered with a paper tissue that will soak the excess oil.
  • There you go! Chaklis are ready to relish. Serve cool!
