As we continue to explore more exciting drinks from around the world in hope of finding unique drinks, there’s never a time we are left disappointed. Today, we have bumped against an impressive coffee drink popularly known as Cafe Touba. A spicy coffee that is one of the traditional drinks of Senegal, Cafe Touba is named after the city of Touba in Senegal. It is typically consumed by the Islamic Mouride brotherhood as it came to Senegal when the brotherhood's founder had returned from exile in Gabon in 1920. So you can suspect that this drink dates back to the time even before the 19th century. Usually, a glass of Cafe Touba is served and savoured during traditional ceremonies, gatherings and occasions. It is also served and offered to people at the Grand Magal of Touba, which is one of the most popular pilgrimages in the world. The consumption of this drink has grown since the time it was invented and has spread outside of Senegal to other countries. It is brewed by flavouring it with a special spice known as Guinea pepper and with cloves. These spices are mixed and roasted together with coffee beans and then crushed into a fine powder. The rustic-style of preparing this drink involves using a filter and brewing it in a similar manner as to how a drip coffee is made. Thinking of giving this coffee drink a try? Here is the method for brewing it at home.
