Some people believe that a cook didn’t have enough flour to bake a cake but decided to bake one anyway. As a result, the cake had a gooey texture and he named them brownies due to the cocoa concentrate.
While the aforementioned stories exist, there are some more stories to blow your mind. It's believed that a housewife in Maine forgot to add baking powder to her cake mix. Quite obviously, the cake turned out to be a flat one. But instead of throwing it out, she served the flat cake and called it ‘brownies’.
