The New Year 2025 started with a bang all around the world. Social media platforms are flooded with virals showcasing fireworks and people toasting to the year that has passed and months to come. However, Indians were busy making a new record.
It’s no brainer that any celebration is incomplete without food, and to show it, Indians ordered in plenty. From December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025, people catered to their midnight cravings and welcomed the New Year while relishing their favourite foods.
According to Rohit Kapoor, CEO, Swiggy Food Marketplace, “New Year’s Eve on Swiggy is truly a feast for India! From late-night biryani cravings to massive savings on dining out, we’ve witnessed celebrations like never before. Huge shoutout to our partners and teams for making this NYE unforgettable!”
Blinkit, backed by Zomato, also backed the claims of people ordering in plenty on New Year’s eve and January 1, 2025. CEO Albinder Dhindsa added that they received the biggest party order worth Rs 64,988 from Kolkata. Bengaluru topped the list of housing most generous people as their combined tips for riders added up to Rs 1,79,735.
New Year’s Eve Was Record-Breaking For Swiggy
According to a statement by Swiggy, New Year’s Eve and late night into January 1, 2025, was a record-breaking time for the food aggregator. Delivery orders were recorded to increase at an exponential rate as people were excited to start afresh and leave behind the past.
The platform reported that biryani topped the list of orders placed across India. Did you know that an order of chicken biryani was delivered in just 164 seconds in Nellore?
Next to biryani were the orders for cake and why not. Entering the New Year with a slice of cake helped people enjoy the moment with a sweet slice. There were 2,96,711 orders placed for cake, 116,099 for burgers, and 2,24,590 for pizza.
Swiggy also recorded how much their delivered partners travelled to hand over packets of happiness to its customers. The total distance recorded was 65,19,814 km, which is 8 times the distance of a round trip from Earth to the Moon and back.
