How big a biryani fan you are? Can you have this royal dish even if its price reaches an all-time apex? We are not asking this out of the blue. There is a significant context to this. According to reports, biryani prices may rise in Hyderabad, owing to a halt on the import of spices and dry fruits by Afghanistan. This has happened due to the ongoing Afghan conflict that has started with the Taliban taking over the country.

Taliban has put a temporary ban on the import of dry fruits and spices imports to India and that’s why the prices of these items have increased significantly. According to Telangana Today, traders of Hyderabad have revealed that the prices of cashews and almonds have increased by approximately Rs 200. They also revealed that an array of dry fruits including raisins, pistachios, figs, almonds, and cashews are imported from Afghanistan and are used to prepare biryani.

A local hotel owner, Syed Irfan told Telangana Today that around 50 kg of pistachio, almonds, and cashews each are used every day in his hotel for the preparation of multiple dishes. Their business was impacted immensely during the series of lockdowns in the past and now this import ban has added the nail in the coffin. He is experiencing huge losses and owing to this, he along with other hoteliers are mulling over increasing the prices of different types of biryanis in the coming days.

According to other sellers in the city, further increase in the prices of dry fruits due to their shortage may force them to raise the prices of biryanis too. In addition, the sales of dry fruits in Jammu have significantly reduced again due to the shortage and increase in prices. This is leading to significant losses.

So, if you are vising the City of Nizams anytime soon, get ready to order costlier biryanis. Don’t worry, there won’t be any compromise on their taste!
