Beyond Your Breakfast Bowl: 5 Fun Ways To Use Corn Flakes

Almost every trip to a supermarket is incomplete without my mother picking a giant bag of corn flakes, “just in case”, she mutters each time. We somehow finish half the bag in a matter of a week, only to banish it a week after. You see, there’s only so much monotony you can stand for breakfast, right? Corn flakes, undeniably, make for a convenient breakfast option. All you need is one big bowl of hot milk, throw in some corn flakes, and you are done. That is perhaps how half the world uses cornflakes, but guess what, there’s so much more that you can do with these crispy bits that’ll make you view corn flakes in a whole new light.  

Here are five ideas we swear by.  

1. CFC- The Corn Flakes Chicken

Call it our sheepish attempt to recreate the fried chicken recipe of a famous fast-food joint or whatever, but this hack is sure to win you over. Crush some corn flakes keep it aside, prepare a chilli corn flour batter, keep that aside too. Dip your chicken pieces in this corn flour batter and then rub it onto the crushed corn flakes and then fry or bake your chicken. Here’s an easy, low-fat recipe for your reference.  

2. Corn Flakes Chivda

Looking for snacks to pair with your tea? Look no further. In a hot pan mix up corn flakes, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, chana dal, peanuts and serve hot.  

3. Corn Flakes Chaat

Corn flakes can also serve as an excellent base for chaat. Take a mixing bowl, add corn flakes, chopped tomatoes, onions, chillies, chutney, coriander leaves and peanuts etc. Mix everything well and chomp on.  

4. Corn Flakes Stir Fry

You can also go oriental with your corn flakes. Take a wok and on high flame, fry together some corn flakes, soy sauce, bell peppers, ginger, garlic, chicken or tofu and serve hot.  

5. Corn Flakes Fruity Yoghurt

This layered dessert has everything you crave for in a ‘healthy dessert’. Chilled yogurt, berries et al. Adding corn flakes gives this treat a much needed crunch, you can go ahead and add some nuts too.
