The tangy-sweet taste of golgappa makes many of us slurp a little. It is known by different names, such as pani puri in Mumbai, Gupchup in Bihar and Odisha, and so on. If we talk about Kolkata, it is known as 'Puchka'. And its flavour is so unique that if you taste it once, you will revisit the city just for it. Let us tell you where you will get to eat some of the tastiest puchkas in Kolkata.
Chakraberia, Ballygunge
If you do not eat puchkas with boiled potatoes, then you must taste Chakraberia's puchka once. Here boiled raw bananas are used instead of potatoes for puchkas. But this doesn't mean that they don't serve aloo-puchka. On the contrary, all the puchkas are much liked here. Also, for the Jain community, different spices are used in making puchka.
New Alipore
Bijay Prakash's puchkas are famous for their unique taste and reasonable price here. Although the size of the puchkas here looks a bit bigger than anywhere else in the city, their flavour is such that one would desire to eat it again. Although puchkas are found at many shops in New Alipore, Bijay Prakash has the biggest fan following.
Russell Park
Nanku Ram's puchkas are pretty famous here, although their recipe is kept entirely secret. However, you can feel the unique taste of mint and asafoetida in them. Once tried, customers like to come here again and again. Nanku Ram's USP: He doesn't buy readymade spices; instead, he prepares them independently.
Vivekananda Park
The puchkas of 'Dilip Da' is so popular here that people come from far to taste them. Besides puchka, churmur (Rs 40) and ragda chaat (Rs 40) are also very popular. But Dilip Da's best item is dahi puchka, made with sweet chutney and flavoured with dates, mango pulp and mint.
Vardaan Market
The flavour of spices like coriander, celery, fennel, cumin and kasuri methi makes the puchka taste quite different here. Typically six puchkas are available in the Vardaan market for 20 rupees. However, their puchkas are expensive than the burrabazaar but are worth trying.
