Weight loss is the dream of so many people, and we are forever looking for foods to expedite the process! But are there any foods that truly help? Well, for one, there are flax seeds. They may look tiny, but have a huge impact! That’s because they contain a generous dose of nutrients, including lignans, isoflavones, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, as well as fiber.
Nutritionist Avni Kaul tells HealthShots, “The small-sized flax seeds are truly amazing nutritious seeds. Also known as alsi, they are considered a powerhouse of nutrition. Flax seeds resemble sesame seeds but are a bit bigger in size. They feel warm, earthy, and have a nutty flavour.”
Although they are not categorized as a grain, their vitamin, minerals, fiber and other nutritional content are much better than other grains. There are several benefits of flax seeds.
As per a study titled ‘Phytochemicals That Influence Gut Microbiota as Prophylactics and for the Treatment of Obesity and Inflammatory Diseases’, published in the journal Mediators of Inflammation, the bacteria in a person’s gut interact with compounds that are present in several plant foods, and may help with weight loss.
Here are some of the surprising benefits of flax seeds:

Flax seeds are a top source of omega-3 fatty acids, and can help in countering inflammation. These seeds are excellent for people with hypertension as they help stabilize blood pressure, says Kaul.
2. Good for digestion:
“Flax seeds are fiber-filled and act as a natural laxative. They can be consumed daily for good digestion and better bowel movement,” adds Kaul.

2. Grind roughly and have lots of water with it.
3. One can also add them to salads or smoothies.
4. Ideally, two tablespoons are recommended for daily consumption. Pregnant or breastfeeding women need to consult their doctors.
