A slushy is a drink made of flavoured ice and a beverage, most commonly soda, that is similar to granitas but has a more liquid content. It's also known as a slush, frozen drink, or frozen beverage. There are two types of slushies: carbonated and non-carbonated. Omar Knedlik, the proprietor of a Dairy Queen franchise, built the first carbonated slushy machine. In the late 1950s, his restaurant's soda machine was always malfunctioning. When his machine broke down in 1958, he decided to store his soda in his freezer, where it got slushy when he took it out. He decided to sell the slush to his customers, and it quickly gained a following. Knedlik decided to pursue making slushies and hired Ruth Taylor to design The Icee Company's name and logo. These early machines worked by mixing and freezing a flavour mix, water, and carbon dioxide using an automotive air conditioning system. Knedlik partnered with John Mitchell in 1960 to mass-produce slushy machines, which they patented in 1962. In 1965, 7-Eleven purchased three ICEE machines and agreed to a licencing agreement with ICEE in which 7-Eleven would use the Slurpee name for its products and would only sell them in American 7-Eleven stores. Slushies can also be alcoholic. You don't have to do much, just blend in some booze with the base of your choice and serve it frozen!
Here are some cocktail slushies that will refresh you during the summer afternoons-
Peach and Pineapple Slushie
Peach and pineapple slushie is made with frozen peaches, pineapples, rum, pineapple vodka, and peach schnapps that are mixed in these gorgeous yellow beverages. These beverages have a beautiful orangish-yellow colour. But don't be fooled by the light tropical flavour! They're strong drinks since they each include different types of alcohol.
Vodka Watermelon Slushie
Lemon juice, sugar, four cups of seedless watermelon, vodka, ice and your choice of garnishes are all you'll need to make this watermelon-flavoured slushie. It has a unique flavour that can only be found in watermelon, and it's light and simple to make. However, you definitely taste the vodka, so if you're not a fan, you might want to add something else like white rum.
