Aloo Ki Barfi? How You Can Use Sweet Potatoes To Make A Dessert Of Your Dreams

If you aren’t already aware, sweet potatoes are quite versatile in nature. From consuming it raw to using it in the making of chips, curries and soups, there are countless recipes you can try using sweet potatoes as the hero ingredient. It is also considered a healthier compared to its other tuber cousin potato. But today we are in a mood to indulge. 

Barfis are close to every Indian’s heart. We are always in search of excuses to make this fudge-like sweet at home and drool all over them. Did you know sweet potato can also be used to make barfis, yes, we told you they are super versatile! Find underneath a recipe of 6-ingredient barfi at home.  

Ingredients- 

  • 250g sweet potatoes
  • 150g sugar
  • Half cup of water
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 3 big tablespoons of ghee
  • Dry fruits/ silver leaves ( for garnishing )

Steps in the making-

  • First boil the sweet potatoes in water. Then peel their skin off and finely grate them. 
  • Now heat a pan and add three tablespoons of ghee and pour the grated sweet potato mixture into it. Keep stirring on low-medium flame until the mixture turns brownish in colour. 
  • Then take another pan, fill it with water. Add sugar and cardamom powder into it. Keep boiling to make a two-string consistency of the sugar syrup.
  • After the sugar syrup is ready, mix it by adding it into the first pan. Again, stir until you receive a thick layer of mixture or batter.
  • Set the batter of barfi on a plate after greasing it with ghee and then cut into desired shape.
  • At the end, if you have silver leaves with you, use it for decorating by gently placing it on top of the barfis. Also garnish it with some dry fruits. 
  • Your homemade sweet potato barfi is ready to serve and relish.

These barfis are also ideal for days when you’re fasting or observing a vrat.
