The long and rich history of almonds has dated back thousands of years. There is archaeological evidence that nomadic tribes grind almond kernels for use in high-energy snacks, which began as early as the 4th century.

In the Bible, almond blossoms symbolise hope and the almond is described as ‘the best on earth’. The idea that almonds are a symbol of luxury, happiness and decay has been present for many years among the Romans and in many of today's cultures.

Native to Western and Central Asia, almonds were grown independently and were probably grown by our ancestors before they began to grow in 4000 BC when they grew up and became a popular food throughout Asia.

Almonds were used by silk explorers travelling to China and brought to California by Franciscan priests in the 18th century. They didn't even know that California almonds were the greatest agricultural product of the 20th century. They crossed the "Silk Road" between Asia and the Mediterranean Sea. During their travels, they appreciated the nutritional properties of almonds and expanded the cultivation of almonds abroad.

The use of almonds in cooking has also increased in the last 30 years. With the increased demand for almonds, California has more than quadrupled its almond production and become the world’s largest almond producer.

In particular, almonds are the most popular ingredient in gluten-free, paleo and keto-diet recipes. Almonds have many nutritious benefits: one ounce contains about 164 calories, 14 grams of fat (mostly heart-healthy monounsaturated types), 6 grams of protein and 3.4 grams of fibre. They also contain calcium and nutrients such as vitamin E, manganese and magnesium. Like foods with a low glycemic index, almonds can help control blood sugar levels and maintain weight loss.

Almonds have played an important role in human life for more than 5,000 years and with their delicious taste, high nutritional value, durability and versatility, they are likely to hold that for years to come.
