However, on September 17, 2024, the committee of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, one of the holiest shrines for Muslims in India, decided to host a vegetarian langar. Reportedly, Syed Afshan Chisty, Gaddi Nashin-Dargah Ajmer Sharif, has said that the pilgrim centre will distribute 4000kg vegetarian langar comprising pure ghee, rice, and dried fruits.

To commemorate the 74th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, Dargah officials have reportedly said that the event will be a part of ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ celebrations. The vegetarian langar will be prepared by the popular ‘Big Shahi Deg’ to carry forward the 550-year-old tradition of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty’s Dargah. To promote unity and peace, the Dragah will also hold a special prayer. The officials will also be praying for the well-being of the Prime Minister of India.
According to ANI, Chisty said that seva programmes will be organised on PM Modi’s birthday across several religious centres across the country. This langar service will feed Gurus and needy people around the Dargah.
The report further clarified that the Indian Minority Foundation and Chisty Foundation will be the organisers of the langar. Guests and devotees will be participating in the distribution of the food. The celebration will begin in the morning with the lighting of the deg, followed by the recitation of the holy Quranic passages. Devotees and guests will volunteer in the singing of devotional songs and Qawwalis.
