History & Significance Of International Whiskey Sour Day

It is believed that Whiskey Sour was first mentioned in 1870 in a Wisconsin newspaper but sailors enjoyed this drink for many years before it became popular. Reportedly, sailors used to carry lemon with them in large quantities to prevent suffering from scurvy and mix its juice with sugar and whiskey to create a tangy and refreshing drink.

Today, this drink exists in many forms. Bartenders use bourbon, sugar, lemon juice, and even egg white to create a frothy beverage and serve with the garnish of an orange slice or cherry. The International Whiskey Sour Day celebrates the uniqueness of this drink and its ability to suit people with a diverse palate.

Those who celebrate this day have the opportunity to make the best of it by creating new variants of the classic cocktail. Many bars and restaurants even organise special evenings for the bibulous to indulge in whiskey sour cocktails.
