Okonomiyaki is a kind of savoury Japanese pancake, however, the name is derived from the word okonomi, which means “how you like it” — this means that when guests order okonomiyaki at speciality restaurants, the ingredients are given to the guests so they can cook their own okonomiyaki on the table which is fitted with a griddle. As this may turn out to be rather complicated, the guests are explained the steps by the restaurant team. Sometimes, the okonomiyaki is prepared by the chef right in front of the guests.
However, okonomiyaki is also popular street food. The technique is simple, yet the result is every bit delicious (as you’d expect from street food).
