JACKIE CHAN's 1984 action-comedy Wheels On Meals had among the most recognisable food trucks of movie history, a bright yellow mobile restaurant called 'Everybody's Kitchen'. Distinctly American in provenance (their origins are traced to chuckwagons), food trucks have now proliferated in cities all around the world. (Seen below) Yum Yum Korean Bucket, as the name indicates, serves up Korean street food. It is located at Jatin Bagchi Road, Gariahat. Chicken ramen, kimchi, dumplings, toast, corn dog, Korean fried chicken and boba milk tea are among the items on the menu. It's an extremely popular pit-stop, so drop by with sufficient time on hand. Expect to shell out about Rs 200-250 per person.

(Below) Trucking Hot may be only four months old, but owner Debojyoti Guha Thakurta has already managed to attract a dedicated clientele. While the stir fried chicken chilli momo and honey crispy chicken are the most popular dishes, you can also try the lung fung soup and garlic mushroom chicken. You can find the truck in North Kolkata, Hedua, in front of Scottish Church College. The typical per person cost is between Rs 100-200.

(Below) This one's a veteran of the trade. Cooks On Wheels has been running for no fewer than 18 years, parked by Metro Gate No 2, Esplanade. From 3 pm to 10.30 pm, they do brisk business in rolls, chow mein, momos and fish fry. All for the frugal price of Rs 100-150.

(Below) An initiative of the state government, Benfish food trucks offer a variety of seafood dishes, including fish batter fry, fish biryani, prawn pakora, fish singara, fish seekh kebabs, fish fingers and fries, to name just a few. The Benfish trucks can be found at Shyambazar, Rubi More and Ultadanga. I've been seeing Benfish food trucks from my school days; these are probably the oldest food trucks in Kolkata. Price per head: Rs 50-150.

(Below) Located near Central Mall, Newtown stays open from 5 pm to 11 pm. And it has a queue of food trucks for you to drop by. You could consider Burger Bros if you're in the mood for steak, burgers and grilled sandwiches. If it's kebabs, wraps or biryanis that you crave, then Kebab Mein Haddi is the food truck for you. You can also sample the chow mein, momos and beverages here. Lastly, Mealz On Wheelz does a lip-smacking frankie. It's a good spot to take your family, and it only costs Rs 100-250 per person.
