5 Food Items That Make You Fart

Everybody farts. Passing gas 14 to 23 times a day is normal and a sign of a healthy body. But, this fact doesn’t make it less embarrassing. You get gas because of two things; food items you eat and air you swallow. Apart from farting, you release gas by burping. Some people experience too much bloating and gas. Beans

Beans top the list of foods that cause you to fart more. Beans contain a complex sugar called raffinose that is difficult for your body to digest effectively. Therefore, it passes down to the large intestine where bacteria break it down. As a result, gases including carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrogen are produced. These gases exit your body through the rectum. To reduce the release of gas, you can opt for overnight-soaked beans.

Dairy Products

Most dairy products including milk, cheese, ice cream, etc. contain lactose that difficult to digest if your body lacks enough lactase enzyme. This usually happens with people who are lactose intolerant. One of the symptoms it is characterized by is increased gas formation.

Whole Grain

Whole grains are rich in raffinose, fiber, and starch that are hard to digest. Bacteria in your large intestine break them down and this causes the production of gas.

Soda

Consuming this carbonated drink increases the amount of air you swallow and further leads to burping and passing of gas through your rectum. You can reduce this by replacing it with fruit juices or tea.

Onions

They are rich in a natural sugar called fructose that is known to contribute to gas production in your body.
