5 Desi Foods To Keep You Warm From Within

Biting cold has engulfed India and especially the Northern regions. It’s hard to get up, get out of the blanket, and splash water on the face (it is the hardest, I know). Wrapping blankets and quilts around are just not enough. If you want to battle this bone-chilling cold outside, you also have to take care of your inner health. 

But you know what? You don’t have to rush after exotic and fancy ingredients for the same when you have some desi foods stocked up in your kitchen. So, if you want to stay warm this winter, just head to your kitchen and have the desi food! 

Desi Ghee 

Desi ghee just not makes any meal better but also offers so many health benefits, especially in winter. It not just helps in better digestion but boosts immunity and flushes out toxins from the body. You can have it with your dal, roti, rice, khichdi, soup, or literally anything. Have a spoonful of ghee in every meal and stay warm this winter.  

Sesame Seeds 

Sesame seeds or til are known for their warming properties. It can also boost metabolism and promote blood flow to generate heat in the body. It is considered ideal for consumption in winter. One can have til water early in the morning or have til ke ladoo, til ki chutney to have warmth this winter season. 

Jaggery 

A healthier substitute for sugar, jaggery is also considered ideal for consumption in winter. Jaggery helps in generating heat in the body and thus, keeps you warm from the inside. It also keeps the lungs warm and keeps seasonal infections at bay. You can put jaggery in your tea or just have a small piece of it after your meal. 

Mustard Oil 

Mustard oil is one of the healthiest and most desi oil found in every Indian kitchen. Because of its warming properties, it not just is used in cooking but on the skin to prevent it from getting dry. It is a dadi-nani nuskha for chapped lips. It has heat-generating properties and thus, one should use mustard oil for cooking especially in winter. 

Turmeric 

Yet another common ingredient used extensively in Indian cooking is turmeric. We all are aware that turmeric has healing properties but it also helps in reducing inflammation. Besides, it keeps the body warm and cozy from within. In winter, one should drink turmeric milk every day to beat the chilling cold.
