Celery is a vegetable that has a low-calorie count and high water content. It is crunch and crisp. This leafy green vegetable is loaded with nutrients and offers a number of health advantages. From the same family as parsley and carrots, celery is a marshland plant. It grows in bunches of eight to ten and has long, firm, pale green fibrous stems. At the apex, the stalks taper into leaves. The leaves are edible, though most people toss them. Celery tastes mild, earthy, and just a little bit peppery. Celery is an essential food for managing many health problems since it is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. It might lower the chance of developing cancer, reduce inflammation, improve cardiovascular health, and improve digestion. Celery has a good amount of vitamins, minerals, and fibre in addition to having about 95% water by weight. It is a good source of calcium, potassium, folate, vitamin K, vitamin A, and vitamin C. It also has very less protein, fat, and carbohydrates—just 1.4g. Celery has a lot of beneficial flavonoids, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.
Here are some benefits of consuming celery-
Supports Heart Health
Celery has many vitamins and minerals, including potassium and calcium, which are important for heart health despite its high water content. Additionally, it has folate and vitamin K, which are essential for the production of red blood cells and efficient blood coagulation. Flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular system-protective properties, are a potent class of beneficial plant components that are abundant in celery. Lower risk of heart disease is linked to diets rich in fibrous foods like celery.
Anti-Inflammatory
Numerous antioxidants included in celery have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral effects. Lutein, another substance found in celery, has anti-inflammatory properties for the brain cells. According to research, celery extract functions similarly to NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen. It also has pain-reducing effects. Additionally, it might offer protection against the stomach harm that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use might cause.
Reduces Cancer Risks
Antioxidants found in abundance in celery may help lower the chance of developing cancer. It contains apigenin and luteolin, two strong anti-cancer substances that encourage the death of cancer cells and the destruction of free radicals. Bioactive polyacetylenes, which are found in celery, have the power to stop the growth of a variety of cancer cells. Celery is helpful in preventing breast and pancreatic cancer.
Good For Weight Loss
Celery is a low-calorie vegetable that helps with weight management, as we all know. Because of the digestive fibre in it, you feel full for a very long time. Celery's insoluble fibre content can boost satiety and promote weight loss. Since it is advised that when you are trying to lose weight water-rich diet should be included more. Celery has 95% water, which may aid in weight loss and control lipid metabolism.
Reduces Blood Pressure Level
Phthalides, a class of phytochemicals, are widely present in celery. This substance promotes blood flow by relaxing the muscles in the arteries. Additionally, it helps reduce blood pressure by stretching the smooth muscles in the blood arteries. Nitrates found in celery are also abundant, which may help decrease blood pressure.
