Tangerine orange, nature’s pulpy ball of goodness, is loaded with nutrients in and out. Both the peel and flesh, which is highly beneficial for the skin, serve as an exemplary ingredient in keeping your skin supple and young. Tangerines, commonly known as kinnow, are the second-largest cultivated citrus fruits after oranges. Sweeter than oranges, tangerines with their abundance of antioxidants and vitamins, act as a powerful ingredient. While many eat oranges for glowing skin, kinnow is equally abundant in nutrition and contains 85 percent water.
Health Shots spoke to skin expert Dr Meenakshi Narayanan, who is all praise for tangerine orange and its ability to give you supple smooth skin.
Dr Narayanan says, “With plenty of vitamin C and moderate levels of Vitamin A, tangerines are a wholesome mineral pack with fiber, carbohydrates and proteins. Tangerine orange and its peel is rich in other vitamins and micronutrients too. The antioxidants present in them help to fight against free radicals and thus keep premature aging at bay. Vitamin C is known to provide instant glow and helps to reduce the dark spots and blemishes.”
Dr Narayanan suggests 3 reasons to nosh on tangerine orange for glowing skin:
1. The wonders citric acid can do
Rich in citric acid, tangerines help curb acne on the skin. It has potential exfoliating properties, which helps remove the dead cells from the surface of the skin and revitalize the skin with moisture and freshness. This makes them an edible ingredient with the quality of brightening the dull skin and helps clear uneven skin tone.
2. The wonders vitamin C can do
You should nosh on tangerine orange for glowing skin often. It is a given that they are a great source for vitamin C, which has been linked to having good healthy skin. It plays an important function in the production of collagen in the body, which is responsible for the skin’s young appearance. These citrus fruits also help prevent and repair skin damage caused from sun exposure. Kinnow has an added benefit to the skincare routine as it reverses skin aging. They help restore the elasticity of the skin naturally. With regular consumption, the skin gets firmer, tauter, and wrinkles are reduced.
3. The wonders potassium can do
Potassium is a regenerator. It helps speed the cell renewal process, thus promoting rapid cell growth. Followed by exfoliation, the regeneration of new cells in a super quick manner helps the skin look youthful.
“Filled with potassium, you should eat tangerine orange for glowing skin and other nutritional requirements. As a result of the newer cell growth, already existing scars, blemishes, acne and dark spots will be eliminated from the skin surface.” says Dr Narayanan, Vice President, and Head – Research & Development, CavinKare.
Kinnow are widely grown in North Indian regions so opt for a locally grown variety. Get them whenever you spot them in the market to feed your skin internally.
