While presenting the Union Budget this year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced 2022-2023 as the ‘International Years Of Millets’. Under the new plans, the central government will provide support for post-harvest value addition, enhancing domestic consumption as well as for branding millet products nationally and internationally. Aimed at promoting millets’ nutritional and ecological benefits, this announcement comes after the UN General Assembly took a resolution in 2021 to make 2023 the 'International Year of Millets'.
