Ancient Rome is well known for its revelry and indulgence.  Their food reflected the lavish lifestyles of the empire at its peak, with a host of strange delicacies. Here are a few Roman dishes that might surprise you.

Garum

A pungent sauce made from fermented fish guts and blood, considered a delicacy.

Peacock

Eaten exclusively by the rich, peacock meat was prized almost as much as their feathers. 

Dormice

Roasted or stuffed with spices, these small rodents were consumed as a luxurious treat snack.
