By Tanisha Salwan

Whisky sour is as simple as it can get and is still a cocktail.  There is whisky, sugar, and lemon in this drink. With the sour category, it is believed to be the scaled-down version of the basic punch.

Tracing History

Some legends say, traveling by sea was difficult in the 1800s. It was harder to find clean water on long voyages.

Popularity Of Whisky

Thus, drinks like whisky, rum, and others were quite popular with the sailors.

Lemon: A Saviour

In absence of clean water, many sailors would fall ill. This was when lemon came into the picture.

Go-To Drink

Sailors started squeezing lemons into whisky kept at room temperature and made this cocktail.

Became A Hit

Sailors enjoyed whisky sours for years and when it finally made it to the United States, there was no looking back.
