Some legends say, traveling by sea was difficult in the 1800s. It was harder to find clean water on long voyages.
Thus, drinks like whisky, rum, and others were quite popular with the sailors.
In absence of clean water, many sailors would fall ill. This was when lemon came into the picture.
Sailors started squeezing lemons into whisky kept at room temperature and made this cocktail.
Sailors enjoyed whisky sours for years and when it finally made it to the United States, there was no looking back.
