The dish has a huge following all across the country and uses staple pantry ingredients like rice, urad dal, and salt. So, to master the art of homemade idlis, here's a quick recipe with the ideal dal-to-rice ratio for the perfect idlis every time.

The ideal dal to rice ratio for an idli batter is believed to be 4:1 which means four parts of rice and one part of lentils. It will help you get fluffy and soft idlis.

4 cups of idli rice 1 cup of split urad dal (black gram lentils) Water for soaking and grinding Salt to taste

Rinse rice and urad dal separately until the water runs clear. Soak rice for 4-6 hours and urad dal for 2-4 hours.

Drain water from rice and urad dal. Grind urad dal into a smooth batter.
