This Italian sparkling white wine is known to have charmed people from far and wide and may its way into the international wine market today.
For the unversed, this Italian white sparkling wine is made from a special variety of grapes that are grown in a small Italian village called Prosecco.
The grapes are of Slovenian origin, found in the bordering village of Trieste and Slovenia. Romans called it puccino but it was named after the village and was first mentioned in a 17th century poem.
It is said that by the 1930s the area for the production of these grapes and prosecco was demarcated and no sparkling white wine outside Italy could be called that.
Since it was an inexpensive alternative to champagne that France was well-known for, it spread across UK markets and became a fad in no time.
The sparkling Italian wine can be used for making a variety of cocktails, including bellini and kir royale.
