Wasabi, a condiment known for its bold taste and vibrant green hue is often paired with sushi and sashimi to add a pungent touch to meals. The authentic version of wasabi comes from the rhizome of the Wasabia japonica plant, which is grated to create a paste. Here’s how to make Wasabi.
Wasabi rhizome Grater or traditional sharkskin grater Water
Start by cleaning the wasabi rhizome, under cold water to get rid of any impurities. Carefully grate the rhizome into a paste using a grater or traditional sharkskin grater.
To improve its texture and fragrance add an amount of water to the wasabi. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes to enhance its flavour.
Serve the homemade wasabi alongside your sushi or sashimi for an authentic and spicy culinary experience.
