Garlic is a root vegetable that infuses flavour into any dish. It can make a bland dish taste sumptuous. Though garlic has a good shelf life, you can extend it to months by following a few simple kitchen tips. Here is how you can preserve garlic and use it in your delicacies on the go.
Pickling is the best and easiest way to preserve anything. In India, you can make pickles of everything, including garlic, and serve it as a side dish.
You can either purchase a garlic keeper to make holes in a container and store garlic bulbs in it. Ventilation of the vegetable elongates its shelf life.
Another way to preserve garlic is to make a paste out of bulbs. Instead of buying garlic paste from the market, you can use the organic one made in your kitchen.
Like many seasonal vegetables, you can freeze garlic cloves. Store them in an airtight container and keep them in the freezer. You can use them for months to come.
You must have seen viral videos in which people cook garlic cloves in oil. This oil, along with cloves, can be stored for months.
If you want to increase the shelf life of garlic, you should not break bulbs. Keep the cloves intact to their original structure, and they will stay in your kitchen for weeks.
Much like fruits, vegetables, including garlic, can be dehydrated and stored for several months. Dried garlic cloves need to be stored in an airtight container, away from moisture.
