Vermicelli is also known as semiya or seviya. It is a popular South Indian breakfast which can be made in 30 minutes. Here is how to make this dish:
Vermicelli
1 cup vermicelli 2 tsp ghee or oil 1 small onion 1 small carrot 1 small capsicum 1/4 cup green peas 2 green chilies 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp cumin seeds Salt according to taste Cilantro leaves and lemon wedges for garnish
Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Vermicelli
Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chillies, and cook for a minute until fragrant.
Add diced carrots, capsicum, and green peas. Cook for a few minutes.
Meanwhile, roast the vermicelli in a separate pan until golden brown.
Add the roasted vermicelli to the vegetables along with turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and let it simmer until the water is absorbed.
Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges if desired.
