Vazhaipoo Cutlets: South Indian Banana Flower Snack For Tea Time

These crispy-fluffy cutlets made with banana flower are a great way to introduce this fairly underrated ingredient into your weekly diet, and also enjoy with a cup of tea.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup banana flower, chopped 1 onion, chopped 2 boiled potatoes 3 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste 2 tablespoons chopped coriander 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon cumin powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon garam masala powder 2 tablespoons corn flour 1.5 tablespoons water Salt, to taste Oil, for shallow frying

METHOD

Combine all the ingredients except the corn flour and water in a large bowl.

Shape into patties and place on a large plate while you heat the oil in a pan.

Make a slurry with the corn flour and water for a thick paste.

Dunk each cutlet in the slurry before shaking off the excess and gently placing it in the hot oil.

Cook on each side for 2-3 minutes on a medium heat and remove on to absorbent paper towels. Serve hot.
