Pesarattu Upma is a traditional Andhra breakfast. This spicy moong dal dosa is packed with protein, is nutritious, filling, and absolutely delicious. The combination of pesarattu and upma is a classic beloved by Telugu people.
1 cup Green Moong Dal (Whole) 1 tbsp Raw rice 2 Green Chillies, finely chopped 1 inch Ginger, grated 1 Onion, chopped Coriander Leaves, small bunch, finely chopped Salt, to taste Oil, for cooking
1 cup sooji 2 tomatoes, finely chopped 1 chopped onion, green chilli and ginger 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp white urad dal 1 sprig curry leaf 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing) Salt and oil, as required 3 cups hot water 1/2 lemon juice
Soak the green moong dal and rice in water. Drain the water and blend dal, green chillies, and ginger into a smooth thick batter.
Transfer batter to a bowl, add onions, salt, and coriander leaves, and stir well. In a saucepan, bring 3 cups of water, salt, and sugar.
Roast the sooji in a cast iron pan until it slightly changes colour. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal.
Add asafoetida, curry leaves, onions, green chillies, and ginger; cook till onions soften.
Gradually add roasted sooji and boiling water while stirring continuously. Cook until upma comes together and leaves the sides of the pan.
Preheat a skillet, pour a ladle full of batter, and spread evenly. Drizzle oil, cook on both sides, place a scoop of upma, fold, and serve hot.
