By Aanchal Mathur

Pick a particular city in Uttar Pradesh, and you will find plenty of yummy dishes donning the breakfast platter.

From Varanasi’s Choora Matar to the countless kachoris, here are a few breakfast dishes from UP that you cannot miss out on.

Kulcha Nihari

Hearty mutton paya stew paired with a soft and moist flatbread called kulcha, this is one breakfast dish you’ll easily find on the streets of Lucknow.

Aloo Kachori Sabzi

All across UP, kachori—a fried snack resembling a poori—is a staple breakfast dish. Stuffed with spices and served with aloo ki sabzi, kachoris are a must try when in UP.

Choora Matar

Choora Matar is a Banarasi version of poha, where beaten rice, or choora, is mixed with cooked green peas. This is a popular winter breakfast in Varanasi.

Bedmi Poori

Another fried delight, this poori is made with lentils mixed with the flour. The yummy pooris are served with either an aloo sabzi or a pumpkin curry.

Bedai & Jalebi

In UP, jalebis are often eaten alongside bedai, which is a cross between a poori and a kachori. The twisty, sugar syrup-coated dessert is a must try for breakfast in UP.
