Pancakes are those delightful disks of fluffy goodness that have remained a timeless charm that transcends breakfast table worldwide. To master the perfect batter is an art form and with a few simple ingredients and a bit of fineness, you can create a stack of golden perfection in your kitchen.
1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk (whole or buttermilk for richer flavour) 1 large egg 2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil Optional: vanilla extract or other flavourings (e.g., cinnamon)
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter or oil until smooth. If using flavourings like vanilla extract, add them to the wet ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. It's okay if there are a few lumps. Overmixing can lead to tough pancakes.
Let the batter rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the baking powder to activate and helps develop a tender texture.
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil. Pour 1/4 cup portions of batter onto the skillet and cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown on both sides.
Serve the pancakes warm with your favourite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.
