The Tawa Burger is a popular street food dish that brings the vibrant flavors of Indian street food to a classic burger. Unlike the typical burger that's grilled or fried, this version is prepared on a large, flat griddle called a "tawa," which enhances its flavors by giving it a crispy, caramelized texture. This burger combines a flavorful veggie patty with spices, onions, and tomatoes, all cooked together on the tawa, creating a mouthwatering fusion of spicy, tangy, and savory flavors

Ingredients

– 4 burger buns – 4 vegetable patties (homemade or store-bought) – 1 onion, finely sliced – 1 tomato, finely sliced – 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced – 2 green chilies, chopped (optional) – 1/2 cup shredded cabbage or lettuce – 2 tablespoons butter – 1 tablespoon oil – 1 teaspoon cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

Step 1

Heat a tawa or flat griddle over medium heat. Add oil and butter. Once melted, add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Add sliced onions, bell peppers, green chilies, and cook until they turn soft. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt.

Step 2

Push the veggies to the side of the tawa. Slice the burger buns in half and place them cut side down on the tawa. Toast until golden brown and crispy. Cook the vegetable patties on the tawa until they are warm and crispy.

Step 3

Place a slice of cheese on each patty, if using, and allow it to melt slightly. Spread green chutney on the bottom half of each bun and ketchup on the top half. Place the veggie patty with cheese on the bottom bun, add some cooked veggies, sliced tomatoes, and shredded cabbage or lettuce.

Step 4

Press the assembled burgers gently on the tawa, allowing them to crisp up further and blend the flavors together. Serve hot with extra chutney or ketchup on the side.
