Among all kinds of dal preparation, Sindhi-style dal is an amazing recipe to try out. It is flavourful and pairs well with steamed rice, matar pulao, and roti-sabzi. If you are looking for a new recipe to prepare moong dal, here is one you must try out.
½ teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 1 cup split yellow moong dal 1 chopped onion 2 tablespoons ghee 2 chopped tomatoes 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste ½ teaspoon turmeric powder Salt to taste 2 cups water 1 teaspoon garam masala powder 2 slit green chillies 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
Rinse dal to remove impurities, soak it in water, and keep it aside for a while. Meanwhile, heat ghee in a saucepan and add cumin, green chillies, and mustard seeds to it.
After adding asafoetida, saute it for a while, and add onions to the pan. Saute them until they become translucent.
Add chopped tomatoes, salt to taste, and a splash of water. Once tomatoes become mushy, add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
Add water and soaked dal to the mixture. If you are using a pressure cooker, cover the lid and wait for 3-4 whistles before turning off the flame.
Add garam masala and coriander leaves to the cooked dal. Mix it well and add water if required to maintain the consistency.
After simmering for a few minutes, serve hot dal with rice or roti of your choice.
