Halwa is a much-loved Indian dessert, but traditionally it’s made with a lot of ghee which isn’t ideal for people looking for a healthier diet. This no-oil, no-ghee version is a simple solution for guilt-free indulgence.
1 cup of flattened rice (aval) 300 grams of jaggery 3 cups coconut milk Chopped nuts (optional)
Begin by roasting the flattened rice and then grind it into a fine powder
In half a cup of hot water, melt the jaggery. Then filter it to remove any impurities.
Add the powdered rice to the coconut milk and grind the mixture thoroughly then transfer the mixture to a pan and heat it while adding one cup of water.
As the mixture thickens, pour in the jaggery syrup while continuously stirring until the jaggery completely dissolves, and the mixture reaches a semi-solid consistency.
Once achieved, transfer the mixture to another vessel. Allow it to cool down then cut it into pieces of your preferred size and enjoy.
