Potato sticks are a versatile and popular snack that can be enjoyed in various forms, from crispy fries to seasoned potato chips. They are a favorite among both kids and adults due to their simplicity and the ability to customize flavors to suit different tastes. Whether served as a side dish, appetizer, or a standalone snack, potato sticks are easy to make at home. Here's an easy recipe.
– 4 large potatoes – 2 tablespoons olive oil – 1 teaspoon salt – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper – 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional for extra flavor) – 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional) – 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into thin, evenly-sized sticks, about 1/4 inch thick. This ensures they cook uniformly
Place the potato sticks in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch and contributes to a crispier texture. After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry thoroughly with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
In a large bowl, toss the potato sticks with olive oil, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and dried herbs if using. Ensure the potatoes are evenly coated with the seasoning. Spread the seasoned potato sticks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the potato sticks are golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through the cooking time to ensure they cook evenly. Once cooked, remove the potato sticks from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
