Double Ka Meetha is a traditional dessert from Hyderabad made during festive occasions.
6 slices of white bread 1 cup of sugar 3 cups of full-fat milk 1/2 cup condensed milk 1/4 cup ghee 1/4 cup chopped, mixed nuts 2 tbsp. raisins 4-5 green cardamom pods 1/4 tsp. saffron strands
Remove the crusts from the bread slices, cut them into triangles and fry them.
In a pan, add sugar and water, creating a syrup.
In another vessel, boil milk. Add the cardamom pods and saffron strands. When it thickens, add the condensed milk and continue to simmer for 5–7 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. In a baking dish, arrange a layer of fried bread pieces. Pour the sugar syrup over the bread and then pour the milk mixture over the bread. Sprinkle some chopped nuts over this layer.
Repeat the layering process. Cover the baking dish with aluminium foil and bake for 20–25 minutes.
Remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, chilled or at room temperature.
